Ever since its introduction to the global media platform in 2011, Snapchat has made it easy and enjoyable for its users to share their personal experiences and moments. Snapchat was founded by Evan Spiegel, Bobby Murphy, and Reggie Brown while they were in the university, University of Stanford. Originally, it was named Pica boo but after a major rebranding process, it was renamed Snapchat. Today, after only about nine years, the company is now worth nearly $22 billion dollars and recorded a revenue of $1.2 billion dollars in 2018.

Since its humble beginning, Snapchat has expanded its user base and today maintains its presence almost in every country in the world. One of the massive drivers of its immense growth within such a short period of time is the way it revolutionized the user interactions by adding virtual stickers and “augmented reality” objects, making it more enjoyable to interact and communicate with each other.
Looking at the figures from the recent past, from the 1st quarter of 2014 until the last quarter of 2018, we can see a steady increase in the active users of Snapchat. The rate of increase may have slowed down, yet the Snapchat continues to keep growing. By the end of 2017, the Snapchat user base had increased to more than 166 million users.

Snapchat uses of real-time multimedia messaging and communication with filters, effects, drawings and text, and emoji captions. This provides the users to edit themselves or alter their faces with new and different shapes and colors during their conversations. Plus, the range of animated emojis and GIF is limitless in Snapchat, allowing users to express their opinions, ideas and feelings in a funny “picture” form rather than just text messaging. In addition, recent new updates allow the users to share “Stories”, a set of short writing that lasts for a limited period of time. Also, the “Snaps”, the signature multimedia posts of Snapchat that last a limited time has now become a new social media enthusiasm and a trend among the users.

Today, over 1 billion Snaps are shared every day. Amazing isn’t it? people have a lot to share and Snapchat makes it funnier and easier.
And apart from that, the user base of Snapchat has increased dramatically as well. More than one hundred million (100 million) users use Snapchat every day. Imagine a hundred million people log in and use Snapchat every day. Snapchat is among the social media platforms that has one of the largest daily active user bases.
Moreover, as of November 2015, the users were sending more than 6 billion videos per day. And after 2016, Snapchat hit 10 billion daily video views.
